What is UN Global Compact?

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is a voluntary initiative that encourages businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on them. Global Compact participants commit to respecting 10 principles on human rights, labor rights, environment and anti-corruption. The initiative has a mandatory disclosure framework, which motivates business participants to annually report on their progress against the 10 principles in a report called Communication on Progress (COP). Companies that do not comply with this reporting requirement are delisted from the list of participants after two years. Under the UNGC, companies are connected with UN agencies, labor groups and civil society organizations.
